Apparently the petition calling on the Government to cancel the proposed forthcoming state visit by President Trump has now garnered over 300,000 signatures*. Now I hold no brief for Trump, as recent posts will attest, but I think we have to distinguish between the man and the office he holds. The Queen has "invited" him here as President of the United States, not in his personal capacity. It will not be the first time Her Majesty has acted as host to some Head of State that she probably secretly wished she didn't have to deal with. He's a nasty man, but he is also the head of a country we are, and wish to remain friends with. We need to hold on to that distinction.
